Course Description: This award introduces the participants to the skills necessary to collaborate and work effectively as a team player as part of a productive team in the workplace.

Target Group: This course is aimed at learners 16+; it can, however, be taken by any candidate wishing to improve one's pre-employment skills, as well as cpd (continuous professional development) for existing employees, especially newcomers in the workplace. Employers today area looking beyond academy certificates, and soft skills, such as teamwork, will improve a candidate's chances.

Entry Requirements: Have a basic secondary education /school leaving certificate. Be able to communicate both orally and in writing in English.

Outline of Course: The focus of this module is on improving one's employability by understanding the power of language, comportment, and professional behaviour. Together with other soft skill courses offered, it aims to show students how employers consider more

than one's academic results, and that these are not the sole factor on getting a job

depends. Tools will be provided, and concepts explored to introduce learners to acceptable

norms when collaborating as a valuable member of a team in the workplace.

Competences: at the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

a) Experience team spirit, commitment, pride, and trust.

b) Cultivate a spirit of cooperation and accountability.

c) Follow team goals using the SMART goals model.

d) Motivate themselves to accomplish the team's goals.

e) The importance of communication and encouragement to have frank and open discussions on issues or disagreements.

a) reflect on the best context-appropriate language, tone, and behaviour to use in the workplace.

Learning Outcome 1: Outcome Type – Skill

Apply appropriate methods of communication at different levels within a team. Display more confidence whilst communicating. Use communication more effectively with others especially superiors, colleagues, and subordinates.

Learning Outcome 2: Outcome Type – Knowledge

Be aware of the benefits of being more reflective to adopt the appropriate workplace behaviour when working in a team”. Recognise their strengths and weaknesses and how they can improve where necessary. Define the importance of their role within teams in the workplace. 

Assessment: The assessment for this Award consists of two parts:
1) For the formative assessment participants will be assessed on the compilation of a reflective action plan, their participation in class, in group work, in role-play sessions and in teambuilding games and activities.
2) For the summative assessment learners will be assessed via a multiple-choice test.
The maximum mark for the course is set at 100% and to be awarded a certificate, participant’s will be required to achieve a minimum aggregate of 50% of the maximum mark.
